The new president will be Sergei Ivanov Jr., the son of Sergei Ivanov, a former head of the Russian presidential administration, deputy prime minister, and minister of defense.
The new head of the diamond giant brings a wealth of business and banking experience and currently serves as senior vice president of Sberbank. After he graduated from the prestigious Moscow State University of International Relations, he worked at Gazprom and Gazprom Bank.
From 2011 to 2016, he led the Board of Directors of OJSC SOGAZ.

He will succeed Andrei Zharkov as president of Alrosa, Russia’s largest diamond producer, in a reshuffle announced by Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Russian Far East.
Differences between Mr. Zharkov, an ally of Trutnev, and senior officials over the Federal Property Administration’s sale of control of OJSC “Diamond World”, until recently Russia’s only custom diamond processing center, and other issues. There is speculation that this difference may have occurred.

Alrosa is a group of Russian diamond producers. Diamonds are mined in the Sakha (Yakutia) region of Siberia, the Arkhangelsk region, and Africa.
In 2016, Alrosa production reached 37.2 million carats. Diamond sales totaled 40.1 million carats. The company forecasts production this year at 39.2 million carats.
Alrosa’s largest shareholders are the Russian Federation with 33.02%, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) with 25%, Yakutia’s municipalities with 8% and the public market with 34%.
