A New Ringgold man and a Summit Station woman are accused of stealing $2,657 worth of items from Pennsy Supply Co. in Wayne Township.
State Police in Schuylkill Haven arrested Kenneth C. Hengen, 34, of 107 Peaceful Valley Road, in connection with a robbery reported on the grounds of an asphalt company on January 31, 1990. Ashley Ray Shelhamer, 36, of Fair Road, was charged.
According to court documents, Officer Thomas Luskan arrived at Pennsy on Jan. 31 at approximately 4 p.m. to report a robbery. The property, located at 2225 Fair Road, is a gated quarry.
Deputy Superintendent George Durr told police two people were seen on CCTV footage at the property earlier in the day. Police said a man wearing a black hoodie was seen coming out of one of the buildings carrying an orange bag from the company.
A female suspect was also seen wearing a winter hat, gray sweatshirt and carrying a backpack, Hengen told police.
Luskan said he saw glass being broken from the windows of the vacant building. A search of the property was conducted with negative results.
On the way, State Police Corporal. Luscan said Robert Kluge saw two people matching the suspect’s description.
Police said the woman, identified as Shellhamer, said the man initially told her his name was Michael Franz and eventually gave his name as Hengen. He was found to have an active arrest warrant for robbery obtained by St. Clair Police.
Police said Dar identified the suspects as the two seen in the surveillance camera footage.
Police said Shellhammer was found to be in possession of a green and purple pipe, a black grinder and a THC vape pen.
When asked about the orange bag, Hengen provided police with the location in the woods where he hid the items along with the bag.
Police recovered all of the missing tools, equipment and electronics belonging to Pencey and said they came from the building where the theft occurred.
During subsequent questioning, the suspects told police that Hengen had taken tools to fix a leaking pipe at Shellhammer’s home. Hengen told police that the grinder in the bag could not be used to cut the pipe and because the bag was heavy, he left the items in the woods.
The two were arraigned by District Magistrate Judge David A. Plachko in Port Carbon and booked into the Schuylkill County Jail.
Hengen remains incarcerated after failing to post bail of $50,000, while Shellhamer was released after paying 10% of the $25,000 bail.
Hengen and Shellhamer are each charged with felonies of robbery, conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property, as well as misdemeanor counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to possess a controlled substance. Hengen also faces a misdemeanor charge of falsifying identification.
