The app also highlights the text as it is being read, allowing you to read visually.
The only real limitation is that the feature requires the Chrome app to be open and active for playback to continue, which means that playback will stop if you switch to another app or lock the screen.
But the text-to-speech feature is about to get a pretty significant update: the Google Chrome app for Android phones will soon support background playback ( MS Power User), which means users will be able to listen to articles even if the Chrome app is not open or active. MS Power User discovered read-aloud-background-playback It’s flagged in the description as “Adding support for background playback for Read Aloud,” revealing that the feature is currently being tested by the search engine giant.
This isn’t surprising, given that Chrome for desktop supports background playback even when an online article tab is minimized or another application is in use, but it’s interesting to see Chrome for Android catching up on the feature.
