Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering (CSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NASA, marking a significant step forward in quantum research and education. Led by CSE’s newly established Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2), the agreement aims to explore opportunities for collaboration in quantum communications, sensing and space-based applications.
The partnership will focus on feasibility studies for technological developments in quantum communications and networks, and quantum sensors for space science and observation, including modeling and testing of systems for a range of applications such as blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). The collaboration also extends to the possibility of future space-based quantum missions for technology demonstrations and testing of related technologies.
Additionally, HBKU and NASA will explore joint efforts in training, education and workforce development in quantum technologies that will support the creation of specialized educational programs, promote local capacity building and attract talent from the region.
Dr. Saif Al Kuwari, Director of QC2, emphasised that the scope of this collaboration is broad and ambitious, highlighting its alignment with QC2’s objectives and its potential to drive innovation in quantum technologies.
