While Apple has yet to announce its iPhone 16 lineup, rumors have already started circulating about iPhone 17 models planned for 2025.
2025 could see the biggest iPhone design update since 2017’s iPhone X. Apple is rumored to be planning an all-new iPhone 17 “Slim” with a significantly thinner design, a centrally-placed rear camera, and a higher price than the Pro Max model, which currently starts at $1,199.
With the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, Apple has updated the display size to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, and is expected to introduce a new display size to the standard iPhone 17 model in 2025. The iPhone 17 could increase in size to 6.3 inches from the iPhone 16 Pro’s 6.1 inches, or it’s possible that Apple will discontinue the iPhone 17 “Plus” altogether. It’s not clear whether a new lower-priced device will emerge or if Apple will just offer one standard model.
The slimmer iPhone 17 could feature “much narrower Dynamic Islands” that make the most of the screen space, and all four iPhones could be updated with ProMotion display technology with refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and video content. Rumors also suggest that Apple is planning an anti-reflective display that’s more scratch-resistant than the current Ceramic Shield.
As for camera updates, Apple is said to be working on an updated 24-megapixel front camera with a six-element lens, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max could feature a 48-megapixel telephoto camera that’s an improvement over the current 12-megapixel sensor.
The top-end iPhone 17 models are likely to come with Wi-Fi 7 and 12GB of RAM, while the standard model could come with Wi-Fi 6E and 8GB of RAM.
