Yesterday, I wrote that Apple had promised a Final Cut Camera release “later this spring,” but nothing has materialized since. Now, good news: Final Cut Camera was released on the App Store today alongside an update to Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad.
Final Cut Camera for iPhone
Final Cut Camera is an “all-new video capture app” that lets creators “connect wirelessly and remotely manipulate each video angle with powerful, professional controls.” The app was initially announced as a companion tool for controlling iPhone cameras from an iPad, but it also works as a standalone app on iPhone.
The app allows users to monitor zebras and meter audio while adjusting white balance, manual focus, and more. It also offers ISO and shutter speed controls, and makes it easy to switch between resolutions and video formats. The interface is very clear, and it also highlights your iPhone’s battery level and remaining storage.
There’s also the option to turn off the iPhone’s built-in stabilisation, which can be useful when shooting with your own gimbal. When paired with an iPad, the app can mirror the iPhone’s camera, allowing users to control all of these settings from a larger screen while keeping their iPhone on a tripod, for example.
Final Cut Camera puts you in the director’s chair with intuitive, professional controls for your entire video production. Connect up to four devices running Final Cut Camera to seamlessly launch a live multi-cam session and preview, record, and sync video angles right in Final Cut Pro for iPad.
Shoot with powerful settings like shutter speed, ISO, white balance, manual focus, and more. Easily customize resolution, frame rate, color space, and more. Quickly monitor your video with focus peaking and overexposure indicators. Final Cut Camera helps you capture the perfect shot for professional videos.
Final Cut Camera also lets you easily transfer media into your Final Cut projects on your iPad, or save footage directly to connected external storage. The app is free from the App Store and requires an iPhone running iOS 17.4 or later (some features require the latest iPhone).
