Galaxy A52 series won’t receive new Android, One UI feature update

The Galaxy A52 lineup, which comprises the standard Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s, will no longer receive updates to the new Android and One UI versions. The entire lineup recently got One UI 6.1, but this will be the last feature-packed OS update.

The Galaxy A52 series smartphones will remain on Android 14 and One UI 6.1

Samsung introduced its current policy of delivering four major upgrades to its Android OS for its flagship and mid-range smartphones in 2022. Prior to that, in 2020, the company had promised to deliver three major Android upgrades for select devices, including the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s, all of which made their market debut in 2021.

All Galaxy A52 models come preloaded with Android 11 and One UI 3 and have received three Android version updates and multiple One UI updates, meaning they will only receive security updates going forward.

These security updates will be provided every three months for at least the next year for the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G, and monthly for the Galaxy A52s, although it is unclear if security updates will be available beyond that.

The Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A51 5G have been receiving security updates for four years, while the A52 series could get security updates for five years before Samsung ends support for it, but that’s where the party ends when it comes to Android and One UI updates that bring new features.

Is it time to upgrade your device?

If you have an A52 or a similar model, is now the time to upgrade to the Galaxy A55? The Galaxy A55 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, but without the AI features of the Galaxy S24, so the software experience it currently offers is pretty much the same as what you get on the A52, A52 5G, and A52s.

Waiting until at least next year would be a smarter decision, especially since the next phone in the series (likely to be called the Galaxy A56) could come with seven years of updates and potentially a big performance boost, so it’s best to be cautious.

If you can’t wait and want the Galaxy A55 right now, that’s okay too, the Galaxy A55 is one of the best Android smartphones of 2024, as we mentioned in our official review, and you can get it by clicking the link below.
