The Dane was captain of the European team that won the biennial team golf event in Paris in 2018 and was Donald’s assistant during last year’s victory in Rome.
Italy’s Edoardo Molinari will also remain in his role under Donald as he looks to lead Europe to its first Ryder Cup victory on American soil since 2012, when the teams meet at the Bethpage Black Course on Long Island. .
Briton Donald said: “I’m really excited to have Thomas back in the team.” “After being re-appointed captain, my thoughts immediately went to who I wanted to include in my backroom staff and Thomas was certainly one of them.
“He is very important to me. He passes on his knowledge and I have built a great relationship with him over the last few years.
“This is an away Ryder Cup, so the sooner you start planning, the better.”
The tournament, to be held next September, will be Björn’s sixth time as vice-captain and his 10th overall Ryder Cup appearance, after appearing in three tournaments for Europe as a player.
“It was a natural progression from last time,” said Bjorn, 53.
“Rome was a great environment. Luke did a great job. He was a great leader, not just of the 12 players, but of the entire Ryder Cup Europe team who worked hard behind the scenes.”
