Sales of PS5, XS, and NS decreased by more than 30% compared to the previous year

PlayStation 5 unit sales decreased by 194,426 units (-34.4%) compared to the same month last year. Xbox Series X|S unit sales decreased by 49,260 units (-36.8%) and Nintendo Switch unit sales decreased by 89,331 units (-32.3%). PlayStation 4 sales decreased by 4,840 units (-82.0%) compared to the same period last year.

Looking at month-over-month sales, PlayStation 5 sales are down over 72,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up nearly 10,000 units, and Nintendo Switch sales are up nearly 2,000 units.

Cumulatively, in 2024, an estimated 1.25 million PlayStation 5 units, 620,000 Nintendo Switch units, and 260,000 Xbox Series X|S units were sold.

Please note that our estimates are based on sell-through data (quantity sold to consumers). In most cases, the numbers released by console manufacturers are based on shipping data (sell-in), and a sale is considered once the device leaves the factory and enters the supply chain for delivery. This is why, even after adjustment, there is always a discrepancy between a company’s numbers (sell-in) and VGChartz’s estimates (sell-through). The only exception is if the console is discontinued and the remaining stock is eventually sold out. At that point the numbers will match.
