Eyewitness News (WBRE/WYOU) — A Mifflin County man was convicted today of tax evasion for failing to pay income taxes as well as business.

A federal jury on Thursday, April 11, indicted Brandon Ormiller, 55, of Milroy, Mifflin County, on charges of tax evasion for his role in a multi-year scheme to evade paying income taxes and business payments, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. convicted of the crime. employment tax.


U.S. prosecutors allege that Brandon Ormiller owned the insurance distribution company Brandon Ormiller & Associates. Officials said Ormiller filed personal income tax returns reporting that he owed approximately $82,311 in income taxes for the 2007 tax year and from 2009 to 2011.

Mr. Ormiller also filed employment tax returns for his business, reporting that he owed approximately $24,882 in taxes for the third quarter of 2013 and the first two quarters of 2014, U.S. officials said. did. However, Ormiller has already reported that he and his business owe more than $107,193 in taxes. Ormiller did not pay these assessments to the IRS.

According to law enforcement, when the IRS tried to collect taxes, Ormiller hid his assets in holder bank accounts, orchestrated multiple real estate transactions to hide the transactions from the IRS, and filed false financial statements. By filing the lawsuit, the company says it began a multi-year plan to thwart the IRS effort. IRS disclosure forms did not fully disclose his bank accounts and concealed information about his real estate transactions.

Mr. Ormiller was found guilty and his sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 4, 2024.

Ormiller faces up to five years in prison for each of the two charges he was convicted of, according to court documents. Judge Connor will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors in determining sentencing.
