From CNN’s Kara Scannell and Jeremy Herb in the courtroom
The following evidence is allowed:
- Karen McDougall’s testimony is allowed: judge juan Marchan will allow Karen McDougall, who claims to have had an affair with Donald Trump, to testify, but will limit what she can say in her testimony. Marchan said there was no need for the jury to hear that Trump continued his relationship with McDougal during his wife Melania Trump’s pregnancy and after she gave birth. Trump’s lawyer, Todd Blanche, unsuccessfully argued that McDougal’s discussion of the deal with American Media was not part of the charges against Trump. The district attorney’s office claimed there was a pattern to the contracts with AMI, along with hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.
National Enquirer articles attacking President Trump’s opponents will be allowed. Marchan will allow a series of National Enquirer articles attacking President Trump’s opponents during the 2016 campaign to be used as evidence. He noted that the district attorney’s office has an understanding of what certain things will and won’t do at AMI, which owns the National Enquirer. The National Enquirer article was the result of a meeting between David Pecker, Michael Cohen, and Trump at Trump Tower in August 2015, where they discussed a “catch-and-kill” plan to help Trump. devised a plan.
