Irritable bowel syndrome is a type of gastrointestinal disorder. It is most commonly reported among young people due to increased stress, sedentary lifestyle, and poor dietary choices.

Young people with increased stress in their lives, sedentary lifestyles without exercise, and poor eating habits may be at higher risk of developing irritable bowel syndrome. IBS is a common disease that affects the stomach and intestines, causing abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and gas. There is no specific cause of IBS, but health experts say it may be related to an oversensitive colon or immune system.

What is irritable bowel syndrome?

“Irritable bowel syndrome is a type of gastrointestinal disease. It is most commonly reported among young people between the ages of 20 and 40 due to increased stress, sedentary lifestyle, and poor dietary choices,” HOD Gastrointestinal said Bir Singh Sehrawat, director of the department. , Faridabad’s Marengo Asia Hospital told IANS.

What causes irritable bowel syndrome?

Young people are at increased risk of consuming fast foods that are spicy, oily, and loaded with added sugar, salt, fat, and artificial ingredients. Carbonated beverage intake is high among young people. Not only are these foods lacking in nutrients, but they can also affect the balance of gut bacteria that causes IBS symptoms. In addition, excessive mental stress can cause hormonal disorders and affect digestion. Anxiety also changes blood and oxygen regulation throughout the body, affecting the stomach and causing diarrhea, constipation, gas, or discomfort.

These factors are leading to an increase in irritable bowel syndrome in India,” Manish Kak, consultant gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital, Ghaziabad, told IANS. Although irritable bowel syndrome does not damage the gastrointestinal tract or increase the risk of colon cancer, it can be a long-term problem that changes your daily life.

How can I reduce my risk of irritable bowel syndrome?

To reduce your risk of IBS, you should adopt a fiber-rich diet, limit alcohol use, exercise regularly, and manage stress through yoga and meditation. But doctors warned people to be on the lookout for symptoms, especially during bowel movements, such as bloating, constipation, diarrhea, excessive straining during bowel movements, repeated belching, abdominal pain and cramps.

“If you experience these symptoms, see a gastroenterologist. If left untreated, irritable bowel syndrome can affect the colon, the part of the digestive tract that stores stool. ” Bill said.
