If you’re a longtime gadget enthusiast, the name Archos might ring a bell. France-based Archos was one of the few companies making feature-rich portable media players even before Apple changed the world with its iPhone and iPod Touch.
By 2011, Archos had long since switched to making Android-based products, and in June of that year, SlashGear was able to get a hands-on look at the Archos 35 smart home phone. Yes, that’s exactly right. A cordless phone for use with copper landlines or VoIP lines. Although he didn’t formally review it, Chris Davies didn’t seem to be a fan and didn’t understand the point of the product, especially since it was slow and unresponsive. So far, the best options are his Android and iOS apps. A decent Android cordless phone system with access to the Google Play Store, or a partnership with an anti-spam app, could be a huge problem-solver for older Americans.
