Harmeet was one of the three members of India’s 2012 U19 World Cup winning squad, along with Anmukt Chand and Sumit Patel, who were recruited to move to America before their first year of minor league cricket. became a hot topic in America for the first time. These are great numbers for T20 cricket, but to truly appreciate Harmeet’s impact, these numbers need to be put in context. During his three seasons in MiLC, Harmeet has posted these numbers in the toughest division in the league. During his first two seasons, Harmeet served as the captain of the Seattle Thunderbolts. There, he won the 2022 MiLC National Championship, along with American teammates Shadley van Schalkwyk and Andries Goose. However, the Thunderbolts barely made it to the postseason in the loaded West Division.
Six weeks into the regular season, the Thunderbolts are 7-3 thanks to two straight losses to Unmukt Chand and the defending champion Silicon Valley Strikers, and are two behind the East Bay Blazers in the standings. They were outscored by points and had an inferior net run rate. . With four games left, Seattle only had a 30% chance of making the playoffs.
Seattle, which won two games the following weekend, fell behind East Bay by two points. In the first game, clutch bowling from Harmeet and Shadley helped limit GSG to 122, leaving Seattle chasing the target in 11.5 overs. But just eight minutes earlier, East Bay had outscored Hollywood by nine wickets, chasing a target of 108 in 11.2 overs. This meant Seattle needed to close a .40 net run percentage gap in the final game of the regular season.
In that final game, after holding the Grizzlies to 110/8 in the first inning, Seattle needs to catch up within 8.4 overs to advance to the playoffs. After Andries Goose fell on the first ball of the second over, Harmeet carried the burden on his team and went down one down. Friday’s international breakthrough
Harmeet Singh’s effort on Friday was no different from what we would expect from a player who often keeps his emotions close to his chest. But Friday morning started on a somber note for Harmeet.
