Knox TWP, Pennsylvania (EYT) — A local man is accused of taking money from an incomplete sale on Facebook Marketplace.
Butler-based state police have filed criminal charges against the 20-year-old, according to court records. Devin James Clay GoffFeb. 20, at District Judge Timothy Schill’s office in Oil City.
According to the complaint released Thursday, April 11, a woman known to Lucinda reported to PSP Clarion that she tried to purchase an iPhone on Facebook Marketplace on Sunday, March 3.
The victim explained that he gave his address to a person (later identified). Devin Goff— so he could deliver the phone to her. According to the complaint, Goff asked the victim to send money for the cell phone through CashApp.
The victim agreed to pay $160 to the CashApp account name “devyngoff10.” However, the victim did not receive a phone call in the mail and said he had not heard from Goff since he sent the phone bill, the complaint states.
A search warrant was executed on Goff’s CashApp account with “positive results,” the complaint states.
The CashApp account showed Goff’s verified identity, including his date of birth and social security number. The app also shows a $160 transaction that occurred on March 3, according to the complaint.
Goff will be arraigned before Judge Schill on April 24 at 10:45 a.m. on the following charges:
– Theft by deception – false impression, misdemeanor 2
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 7th at 1:15 p.m. with Judge Schill presiding.
