What you need to know
- YouTube Music wants to show you what the artists you subscribe to are up to.
- The app is rolling out a new activity feed that shows new singles and albums from registered artists.
- The feature is currently rolling out for Android and iOS users, but web users will have to wait.
YouTube Music for Android and iOS is adding a new feed called “Activity” that appears when users press the notification bell icon in the music app.
As 9to5Google pointed out, the song was discovered on the YouTube Music app last month. However, it appears to be rolling out broadly to all app users on both iOS and Android devices.
Currently, the YouTube Music app has a notification bell icon that appears at the top when the user is in the “Home” tab. This icon was typically used to roll out app notifications like any other app. However, after the latest update goes live, users will see a new “Activity” feed that says, “Updates and other activity from artists you subscribe to will appear here.”
As 9to5 points out, the activity feed currently shows new singles and albums from artists you’re subscribed to in chronological order. Once this rollout is widely available to users, more features may be added, including the ability to view new podcasts from subscribed channels.
The feed could also be grouped by week or month, as some of the artist’s work currently appears in the “This Week” section.
YouTube Music app users will also see a “Recommended for You” feed just below the new activity feed, where they can subscribe to their favorite artists who aren’t subscribed. As 9to5 points out, this feed is likely based on their music listening history.
He is also known for his artistic activities. Spotify and other music streaming services offer similar feeds that highlight the music artists enjoy, especially the musicians they follow.
As for deployment, as mentioned above, it’s currently showing up in the YouTube Music app, but it’s not showing up in the web version of YouTube Music yet.
