Stolen Device Protection was introduced in iOS 17.3 and, as CNET’s David Lumb reported, applies an extra layer of security to some sensitive data. To use this feature, if he is not at a known location such as his home, he must enter his biometric information once, wait an hour, and then enter his information again to gain access. Next, you’ll need to change some information (like changing your Apple ID password and turning off stolen device protection).

If you frequent coffee shops or live in an apartment complex, your data could also be at risk if you lose your iPhone there. Your iPhone may recognize these locations as familiar and allow others to bypass this security feature. With iOS 17.4, you can set your iPhone to always request a one-hour security delay no matter where you are.

Here’s how to always turn on stolen device protection:

How to always request a 1 hour security delay

1. Open setting
2. Tap Face ID and passcode
3. Scroll down and tap Stolen device protection
Four. Tap the toggle next to Stolen device protection If it is not already enabled. If it is already enabled, proceed to the next step
Five. Tap everytime Under “Security Delay Required”

Your device requires a one-hour security delay whenever you or someone else tries to access or change certain settings on your iPhone, whether you’re in a familiar location like your home.

Stolen device protection only protects some settings, so you must take steps to protect other information. For example, Apple says that stolen device protection doesn’t completely protect your finances because he can still use your iPhone’s passcode for purchases with Apple Pay.

Apple recommends everyone turn on Stolen Device Protection, even if you don’t always need the one-hour security delay.
