Google is finally rolling out its AI-powered editing features to eligible smartphones for free. The company announced that some advanced editing options, previously limited to Pixel smartphones and Google One subscribers, will be available to nearly all Google Photos users starting May 15th. These features include tools such as AI-driven Magic Editor and Magic Eraser. Photo blur correction and portrait light.

This photo editor-specific AI feature was once a key attraction of Google’s premium Pixel smartphones and its cloud storage service, Google One. However, as AI-based editing tools proliferate on the market, Google has decided to make its AI photo editing suite available to a wider range of users for free.

Google AI features are available on Android and iOS

However, even though it is available for free, there are certain conditions for this deployment. To use these features, users must meet certain hardware requirements. For ChromeOS, you need a Chromebook Plus with ChromeOS version 118 or later, or at least 3GB RAM. Mobile devices must run Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 15 or later. Pixel tablets will also gain ground.

If your phone meets the requirements, these tools will start rolling out on May 15th and gradually roll out to all Google Photos users over the next few weeks.

Google Magic Editor Features

One of the standout features, Magic Editor, was introduced on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Use generative AI to perform complex photo edits such as filling in gaps in a photo, repositioning a subject, or changing a photo’s background. This tool automates tasks that previously required manual intervention using tools like Magic Eraser and Photoshop.

After the update, Magic Editor will be included on all Pixel devices, and eligible iOS and Android users will receive 10 Magic Editor saves each month. If you exceed this limit, you’ll need a premium Google One plan with at least 2 TB of storage.

There’s a lot more to Google Photos than Magic Eraser. All Google Photos users get full features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblurr, Sky Suggestion, Color Pop, HDR Effects, Portrait Blur, Portrait Light, Cinematic Photos, Collage Editor Styles, Video Effects, and more can be accessed. Google One subscription.

As the name suggests, these features allow users to perform edits such as:
– Replace dull skies with bright blue
– Easily remove unnecessary objects from the background
– Show recent subjects while seamlessly filling empty spaces
– Perform various foreground and background edits developed to simplify mobile editing

Previously, achieving these effects required painstaking manual work using tools like Photoshop. Magic Editor streamlines the process and makes it accessible to everyone.

However, the AI-powered Best Take feature, which combines similar photos to generate the best image, will continue to be available only on Pixel 8 and 8 Pro models.
