TL;DR
- The popular Pixel Experience ROM is shutting down.
- Old builds will still be available, but new builds will not be created.
- Leader Jose Enrique did not give a direct reason for canceling the project.
What if you like the software experience on your Google Pixel smartphone, but aren’t interested in the hardware? The best way to solve this conundrum is a custom Android ROM that brings the Pixel experience to other OEM phones. is to use.
Pixel Experience ROM did just that. Unfortunately, however, the lead developer of the project announced today that he is closing the project. In a short blog post, he explained that older builds of the ROM will continue to be available, but new builds will not be created.
“As a token of our gratitude, we are sharing important information with you today,” Jose Enrique said in the post. “After much consideration, we have decided to complete development of Pixel Experience.”
Interestingly, Enrique did not directly explain why he decided to close. Maybe he is busy with other projects and doesn’t have time. It’s also possible that he simply lacks enthusiasm for the project these days. It’s strange that he doesn’t give at least some reason behind his sudden decision.
In any case, another developer may adopt the project or create a new project with similar goals. The custom ROM community has shrunk over the past decade, but as long as Android has been around, there will always be people interested in flashing different builds on their devices.
