Android Auto has changed a lot over the years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the settings menu, which is very outdated.
Over the years, Android Auto has undergone several improvements, the latest of which is the addition of a handy dashboard that lets you view multiple apps and information sources at once. But throughout these designs, Google hasn’t changed much in Android Auto’s settings menu.
The last major redesign was in 2020, and we also made some big improvements to the organization, adding things like a “Connect” button and the ability to edit the app drawer from your phone.
In 2022, a new settings redesign for Android Auto is here.
This new design promises a material refresh across the menu, complete with support for dynamic colors and dark mode, both of which are not supported in the current design.
However, the new design was never actually rolled out. It first appeared in Android Auto v7.5, but the latest version at the moment is 11.7, which has a new design. still It’s not live. This is still present in the app and has been slightly updated for 2022 and beyond.

Why isn’t this live yet? Really, it’s hard to know. Maybe Google is holding back just because this settings menu is a sensitive part of the software, but it looks like this is probably just slipping through the cracks. We hope that things change soon, as this element of Android Auto feels increasingly outdated over time.
