PARKERSBURG — Discovery World on Market welcomed its 60,000th visitor on March 27, less than a week until its one-year anniversary on April 2.
Before the museum opened, it was predicted that visitor numbers would be between 20,000 and 30,000 in its first year of operation.
“Today we surprised the 60,000th visitor to the museum with music, horns and overhead announcements in a packed museum.” Wendy Schreiber, executive director of Discovery World on Market, said: “Our special guests were also given free admission to commemorate this milestone and were applauded by our staff.” she said.
In conjunction with mascot Izzy’s birthday celebration at the museum, a formal celebration is planned for Saturday, April 27 from 2 to 4 p.m.
On Fridays, Discovery World also hosts the monthly Izzy’s Kids Club, an event that immerses kids in a variety of STEM themes. This month from 5pm to 7:30pm he will explore the science behind superheroes. The cost is $25 per child and registration is required.
Discovery World will also be hosting Earth Celebration Day on April 21st. The event is sponsored by the Wood County Solid Waste Department and the Forest Service.
Registration is now open for Summer STEM Camp at Discovery World. Registration can be done on the website.
Discovery World will also host its inaugural Imagination Gala on June 8th.According to a press release from Discovery World, this “Exclusive VIP” Fundraising activities “A playful event that supports Discovery World on Market’s mission to inspire children through hands-on STEAM learning.”
A limited number of corporate tables and tickets will be on sale Friday on the Discovery World website. His eight-person table for corporate customers costs $1,000, and his six-person table costs $750. Individual tickets are $80 and couples tickets are $150.
