A Florida mother was sentenced Tuesday to one month in prison and three months of home confinement for stealing President Joe Biden’s daughter’s diary and selling it to the conservative group Project Veritas four years ago.

Amy Harris was sentenced in Manhattan federal court by Judge Laura Taylor Swain, who called the Palm Beach, Florida, woman’s actions “despicable.”

Harris pled guilty to conspiracy charges in August 2022, admitting that she accepted $20,000 of the $40,000 she was paid by Project Veritas for the personal belongings of the president’s daughter, Ashley Biden.

Founded in 2010, Project Veritas considers itself a news organization. He is best known for conducting hidden camera investigations that embarrassed news organizations, labor groups, and Democratic politicians.

Harris tearfully apologized to Ashley Biden for allowing her private works to be sold after she discovered her diary and other items at a friend’s home in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2020, but prosecutors Authorities said Ashley Biden believed her items were safe after a brief stay in Delray Beach, Florida. Spring 2020.

After prosecutors handed down the prison sentence, Harris said, “I am above the law.” I don’t think so,” he said.

“I am a survivor of long-term domestic violence and sexual trauma,” she told the judge.

As Ashley Biden’s lawyer watched from the courtroom bleachers, Harris apologized to the president’s daughter and said she regretted making her childhood and life public.

In announcing the ruling, Swain said that Harris and co-defendant Robert Kurlander, who lives near Jupiter, Florida, initially sent Ashley Biden’s belongings to then-President Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign. He pointed out that he tried to sell it but failed.

The judge said that in addition to greedy motives, Harris wanted to influence the country’s political situation.

Kurlander (who has not yet been sentenced) and Harris each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transport stolen property across state lines.

Recommendation

Defense attorney Anthony Ceccatti argued for no prison time, citing his client’s traumatic life and efforts to care for his children while recovering from abuse and violence.

“She carries the shame and stigma of her actions,” he said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman argued for a prison sentence, saying Harris showed “disrespect for the law and the judicial system.”

“MS. Harris is not the victim in this case,” Sobelman said. “MS. Biden is the victim in this case.”

He said Harris stole “everything he could get his hands on” in the summer of 2020, including Ashley Biden’s diaries, digital storage cards, books, clothes, and bags, hoping to “make as much money as possible.” It is said that

“She wanted to damage Mr. Biden’s father,” he said.

Mr Harris was told to report to prison in July. Upon leaving her courthouse, she refused to speak.

Ashley Biden’s attorney also declined to comment, but a day earlier he had filed a letter with the judge on his client’s behalf that was not immediately entered into the court record.
