APPLE fans are going crazy over iPhone accessories that millions of people may be missing out on.
Gadget-obsessed iPhone owners say this $39 / £45 item is a game-changer.
Apple’s MagSafe charger is a small pad that attaches magnetically to the back of your iPhone.
Power it up using wireless charging while firmly attaching it to your iPhone.
Apple says that “several iPhone versions fully support MagSafe, including iPhone 15.” modeliPhone 14 models, iPhone 13 models, iPhone 12 models.”
In a Reddit thread posted this week, Apple fans revealed their love for the accessory.
The original post author explained how MagSafe can be a huge help at night: “MagSafe is literally the best thing ever.
“I know some people have said the same thing about MagSafe, but since upgrading from my iPhone 8 Plus, MagSafe is my favorite!
“You can attach your phone to your car without looking. You always know where the charger is, even at night. You don’t have to fiddle around trying to connect it.”
Another iPhone owner said, “Honestly, the iPhone has always been terribly underrated.”
Another added: “This is truly my favorite iPhone feature. I use it every day. I don’t have to think about it. I’ve connected my phone twice since I bought it.”
Apple launched the iPhone version of MagSafe with the iPhone 12 in October 2020.
“MagSafe chargers are designed to quickly and safely charge your iPhone wirelessly,” Apple explains.
“The system intelligently adapts to the situation and optimizes iPhone charging with peak power delivery of up to 15W for faster wireless charging.
“The actual power delivered to your iPhone depends on the wattage of your power adapter and system health.
“For iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini, the MagSafe charger delivers up to 12 W of peak power.”
How to use Magsafe
First, you need to make sure you’re using one of the supported iPhone models (15, 14, 13, or 12).
Next, you need to purchase a MagSafe charger. It costs $39 + tax in the US and £45 in the UK.
Next Connect the MagSafe Charger’s USB-C connector to your Apple power adapter (or your computer’s USB-C port).
Place the MagSafe charger face up on a flat surface.
Apple’s official advice says to make sure there are no metal objects or “other foreign objects” on it.
Next, place your iPhone on the charger.
The back of the iPhone is snap Touch the MagSafe charger to indicate it is properly connected.
If all goes well, your iPhone should show that it’s currently charging.
Apple’s official MagSafe guidelines
Here’s the official advice, taken directly from Apple’s support memo:
- MagSafe chargers are designed to help you charge iPhone 15 models, iPhone 14 models, iPhone 13 models, iPhone 12 models, and Apple MagSafe accessories faster and most efficiently.
- When using a MagSafe charger to charge a non-MagSafe Qi compatible device, the power will be reduced and the charging time may be slower than a typical Qi charger.
- Don’t put credit cards, security badges, passports, keychains, etc. between your iPhone and the MagSafe charger. The magnetic strips and RFID chips on these items may be damaged.
- If you have these sensitive items in a case, remove them before charging or make sure they are not wedged between the back of your device and the charger.
- If your iPhone is connected to both a MagSafe charger and a power source through the Lightning port, your iPhone will charge through the Lightning connector.
- Like any wireless charger, your iPhone or MagSafe charger may become slightly warm while charging your iPhone. To extend battery life, the software may limit charging above 80 percent if the battery gets too hot.
- If you leave your iPhone in a leather case while charging with a MagSafe charger, compression of the leather may leave circular marks on the case. This is a normal phenomenon, but if it bothers you, we recommend using a non-leather case.
