The new Android Find My Device network is finally rolling out, and with it so are trackers like AirTag. But what if you live in a house that has both Android smartphones and iPhones? That’s where these particular trackers from Pebblebee come in handy. These trackers work with both Android Find My Device and Apple Find My networks.
On Android, the Find My Device network has just launched. Once fully rolled out, Android smartphones around the world will be able to be used to find lost phones, earbuds, and trackers. Meanwhile, on iOS, this feature has been introduced by AirTag for some time. However, AirTag does not work on Android outside of the “Unknown Tracker” alert. And for other brands of “Find My” trackers, you almost only need to use one network.
With that in mind, households with both Android smartphones and iPhones in the household are in a tough spot. Which tracker should I buy? For AirTags, an Android family member cannot use her AirTag in any way.
That’s where Pebble Bee steps in.
Pebblebee Tag, Card, and Clip Tracker Works with Android’s Find My Device Network Also Works with Apple’s Find My network. Pebblebee said in a press release:
Pebblebee is the only multi-platform connection tracking solution that works natively with both Google’s Find My Device ecosystem and Apple® FindMy™ MFi certification
Trackers and asset management solutions.
We reached out to Pebblebee for more information on how this works, and the company explained some important details.
First and foremost, no, these do not work at the same time. The hardware itself can be configured to work with Android’s Find My Device network and Apple’s Find My network, but it’s an either/or situation.
Once set up on Android, the Find My Device network is available. Find My Networks if you set it up on your iPhone. The tracker is effectively locked into one behavior or the other until you switch to factory reset. The only exception is unwanted tracker notifications. This is supported on all devices regardless of the network they are connected to.
Pebblebee added that you don’t need the company’s app to do this. This app is only needed for firmware updates and to add some additional features using the buttons on your tracker.
Notably, Pebblebee’s website currently has a disclaimer that clearly states that this tracker “does not work with the Apple Find My app.” There was no explanation as to why the disclaimer said this, but Pebblebee representatives and even the CEO assured me. repetition Trackers currently on sale work with both networks, and only one at a time. We asked the company if they would like to revise the wording.
Pebblebee’s trackers are available now starting at $29.99 and will ship in late May.
