NORTH ATTLEBORO — A woman from this town has been crowned Miss Massachusetts, and now her eyes are set on the Miss USA tiara.

Melissa Sapini, 21, who grew up in North Attleboro and attended local schools, recently won the Miss Massachusetts USA pageant, which qualifies for Miss USA and later Miss Universe.

She is believed to be the first contestant with North Attleboro ties to accomplish such a feat.

“This August, I will be heading to Hollywood, California to compete in the highly anticipated televised Miss USA pageant, competing against 49 other states in the country,” Sapini said.

It is the official qualifying round for the televised Miss Universe pageant.

“This is a huge win for North Attleboro, the city of Boston and the entire state,” said Sapini, who now lives in Boston.

The contest was held in March at the Boston Marriott Burlington Hotel, and Sapini was chosen by a panel of judges from across the country to take home the crown.

Miss Massachusetts Executive Director Laurie Clemente said that after “working in the pageant industry for many years,” she believes Sapini “will be a great representative of Massachusetts and will make us all proud.” .

The event featured a choreographed evening dress show, a runway of athletic wear and swimwear that introduced physical strength and health, and interviews.

Sapini has been participating in pageants for several years and was the runner-up in Miss Massachusetts last year. Before that, she was the runner-up in the Miss Teen Massachusetts pageant.

Sapini is a third-year student at Suffolk University, studying broadcast journalism.

Sapini, an entertainment reporter for NESN’s Dirty Water TV, has two years of experience reporting on Boston pop culture. She is one of the youngest correspondents for NESN in Boston and is also a correspondent for Suffolk University News.

She is also a professional model and actress.

Sapini is a 2021 graduate of North Attleboro High School, where he was an active athlete.

As a freshman in high school, she made her first television appearance on a crime investigation show on the Investigation Discovery network.

She also began modeling for an agency in Boston while still in high school and began working as an actress in television commercials. She recently appeared in a Six Flags commercial.

Mr. Sapini attended North Attleboro Middle School and Ambet Elementary School.

She said her experience at the school “really shaped who I am and gave me such a work ethic.”

“Thank you to the many people in town who supported me and gave me the confidence and what I was able to accomplish,” she added.

Sapini made her first appearance as Miss Massachusetts USA in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in South Boston.

“People were cheering for Miss USA,” Sapini recalled, adding that she got out of her car to meet the crowd directly.

Others have appeared, and many more will appear in the future.

“Melissa is dedicated to advocating for high quality and diverse reading materials throughout Massachusetts,” the Miss USA organization said. “She enjoys guest reading and interpreting Haitian Creole to new immigrant students in North Attleboro Public Schools.”

“I read to elementary schools and perform in performances,” Sapini said. “I’m really excited. I’m so happy to be coming home.”

Sapini also helped establish a scholarship program at her mother’s former middle school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, which provides assistance to students who cannot afford tuition.

Sapini said she wants to be an inspiration to her juniors and aims to become an E! News TV correspondent. She describes it as a huge entertainment network on the West Coast.

“We would like to congratulate her,” Town Manager Michael Borg said.

Her family currently resides in New Hampshire.

“I’ve had so much support. The support has been amazing,” Sapini said. “It was really great.”
