Apple has agreed to pay Canadian iPhone users a class action lawsuit over poor performance. The lawsuit stems from Apple’s admission in 2017 that it introduced a software update to limit maximum performance on some older iPhone models with degraded batteries. This was done to prevent unexpected shutdowns, but was not initially disclosed to customers, leading to widespread backlash. Apple faced similar lawsuits in other countries, including the United States, and reached settlements of $500 million.
Apple continues to deny the allegations in the lawsuit. The tech giant insists the settlement does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing by the company.
