Excess meat consumption may lead to colon cancer: study

Food plays an important role in keeping the body of all living things fit and healthy. Food is necessary because it contributes to the health of the body. Therefore, in order to live a long life, it is important to have good eating habits to maintain a healthy and disease-free body.

Some people have strict eating habits and prefer to follow a healthy diet, while others think about eating everything that is delicious to their taste buds. This can lead to health problems such as cancer in the long term. It can be fast food, greasy and spicy foods, or even meat.

A recent study found that people who eat a lot of meat have a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer, News18 reported. In addition to eating meat, lifestyle factors such as lack of physical activity, obesity, consumption of alcohol and tobacco, and decreased intake of fruits and vegetables can cumulatively increase the risk of colon cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a health problem worldwide. This is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common cancer in women. According to a report in the Times of India, approximately 19.2 million people worldwide, and approximately 70,000 people in India, will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2022.

In CRC, chronic inflammation occurs continuously due to cell replacement in the intestinal wall. In some cases, it can lead to the formation of tumors. Uncontrolled cell proliferation occurs. Most tumors are harmless, but in some cases there is a high chance that they will turn into cancerous tumors.

Symptoms of colon cancer that should not be ignored or experienced include constipation, diarrhea, blood in the stool, abdominal pain during bowel movements, anemia, fatigue, and rapid weight loss.

There are several steps you can and likely can take to prevent colon cancer. This includes living a healthy lifestyle, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, having regular health check-ups, reducing or avoiding alcohol and tobacco intake, and controlling your intake of meat, especially red meat.
