TL;DR
- Google apps for Android are all set to do the Gemini toggle.
- This new feature allows Android users to use Gemini without having to download a dedicated Android app that forcefully replaces Google Assistant.
Google released a dedicated Gemini app to replace Assistant on Android in February. But it looks like the search giant isn’t done “Gemini-izing” Android smartphones just yet. For those who have not downloaded the Gemini app before, Google is planning to give his AI chatbot a major area within the Google app.
According to the tipster assemble debugSurvey results (via piunica web), Android users will soon see the Gemini switch inside the Google app on their devices. This is similar to what Google offers Gemini in his iOS app. Switch to Gemini within the Google app and start interacting with the AI by typing, speaking, and sharing images. So essentially you’re moving from the traditional Google Search and Discover interface to the Gemini interface.
The new option in the Google app for Android actually makes sense for users who want to try out Gemini but don’t want to lose Google Assistant functionality. Currently, if you download the Gemini app on your Android device, you must remove Google Assistant and opt-in to only use Gemini as your phone’s primary AI guide. Switching to using Gemini within Google apps overcomes this limitation.
There’s no word on when this feature will roll out to the Google app for Android, but thanks to the video above shared by a tipster, we can see how the feature will work.
