A deadline has been announced for Canadian iPhone users who want to get their hands on Apple’s class action lawsuit settlement.
A BC Supreme Court judge approved a $14.4 million settlement in March.
The class action lawsuit was initiated in 2018 against Apple Inc. and Apple Canada, alleging that performance mitigation features in Apple’s iOS software (iPhone versions 10.2.1, 10.3, 11, and/or 11.2) caused defects. Your iPhone “may age prematurely, deteriorate, or stop working unexpectedly.”
The software update also caused problems with iPhone batteries, and the ordeal became known as “Batterygate.”
Apple denies the allegations in the class action lawsuit, and the settlement does not admit any wrongdoing or negligence on the part of the company. The tech giant previously agreed to pay affected Canadian iPhone users a total of between $11,137,500 and $14,427,500.
Eligible Canadians could receive between $17.50 and $150, depending on the number of people who applied for the settlement.
iOS 10.2.1 or later (for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, or SE installed or downloaded before December 21, 2017), and/or iOS 11.2 or later (for iPhone 7 or 7 Plus) may be eligible to receive payments from a class action lawsuit.
According to the class action website, the deadline for filing claims is September 2, 2024.
