So let’s start with the keyboard app. You can do the most things with your Android smartphone.
We carry on private conversations, enter our credentials, and use keyboard apps to search for things. In other words, if a keyboard app wants to track us and collect data, it can tell just about everything, right? 🤯
You may or may not have thought about it…
However, I think it’s very important to choose a keyboard app that respects your privacy and provides a secure experience.
Keyboard apps for Android: what are your options?
Certainly, there are popular keyboard app choices such as: Google’s Gboardand Microsoft SwiftKey From Google Play Store. If nothing else works, the manufacturer’s default system keyboard app will work.
Unfortunately, we don’t have many options left for now.
In the early days of Android, there were a wide variety of keyboard apps, including Go Keyboard, Fleksi, and Swype.
SwiftKey was my favorite keyboard app at the time (Not open source) until Microsoft acquired it.
Well, using a popular keyboard app may be convenient and reliable, but it’s a shame to see innovation disappear in that space. So, with limited options, how do you choose a keyboard app that’s safe and gets the job done?

With open-source keyboard apps, you can check the source code to ensure that the app works as intended and doesn’t use any sneaky techniques for data collection.
A simple keyboard: just what you need!
Indeed, there are several open source keyboard apps, such as: AnySoftKeyboard. However, not all are regularly updated or actively maintained.
To save you some time, we did some research. And we’ve found a keyboard app that seems to suit everyone.
A simple keyboard.it is All-rounder:

- Regularly maintained and updated
- All the essentials are included
- Flashy features don’t get in the way
- Does not collect/save data
- The perfect alternative to Gboard
I don’t think anyone would want much more than these, unless they want very specific features in their keyboard app (or want a special theme).
simple keyboard is a free, open-source application that provides a secure and private user experience.
It provides features such as:
- automatic capitalization
- Space swipe cursor movement
- separate number row
- Adjusting key presses
- important themes
- custom keyboard color
Here’s how the keyboard app works:

Prediction/autocomplete functionality is no longer available when switching from the SwiftKey keyboard. However, once you get the hang of it, it should be just as easy to use as Google’s Gboard.
