Cary, North Carolina – USA Baseball today continued its process of selecting the nation’s best amateur baseball players for the 2024 season by naming them to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. This list features 45 of the nation’s top collegiate and high school baseball athletes.
Since the Preseason Watch List was announced on February 9th, 27 players have been placed on the list. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Committee will continue to maintain a rolling list of players throughout the season, allowing players to consider their own play. An awards ceremony will be held before the semi-finalists are announced on May 20th.
“We are honored to recognize the top 45 amateur players in the nation for their outstanding performances so far this season,” said USA Baseball CEO and Executive Director. Paul Sailer. “There is incredible talent across amateur baseball, and the players on this list are the best of the best. We move closer to determining the 46th recipient of the prestigious Golden Spikes Award. We look forward to seeing how the rest of the season unfolds.”
A group of four players who were named Golden Spikes Award semifinalists last season have earned a spot on this year’s midseason list, which includes 2023 finalists. jack carianone (Florida). Charlie Condon (Georgia), hagen smith (Arkansas), and tommy white (LSU) was also named to the midseason watch list after reaching the semifinals in 2023.
Eight players returned to the midseason watch list after earning a spot in 2023. chase burns (Wake Forest) becomes the fifth player in the history of the award to be named to the midseason list in three different seasons.Barnes, Carianone, Condon and White join. brody brecht (Iowa), Jacob Cozart (North Carolina), braeden montgomery (Texas A&M), and Trey Yesavage (East Carolina) as a recurring player on the midseason watch list.
For the third time in program history, Texas A&M will feature three players on its midseason roster. The Aggies ranked No. 3 in both 2012 and 2013 after he had three athletes. In the midst of a record-breaking season at the high school level, conor griffin (Jackson Prep) is the only non-Division I athlete on this year’s midseason list. Griffin, who was also named to the preseason watch list, broke Jackson Prep’s stolen base record with 41 stolen bases in a season in the team’s first 14 games in 2024.
In total, 36 different schools and 12 NCAA conferences are on the midseason watch list. In addition to Florida State and Texas A&M, five of his schools had multiple players listed: Duke, East Carolina, Florida, LSU, and Tennessee. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) leads all conferences with 15 players listed, followed closely by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 12 players.

He joins an elite group of recent recipients including: Ivan Melendez (2022), kevin cops (2021), adley lutchman (2019), Andrew Vaughn (2018), brendan mckay (2017), kyle lewis (2016), andrew benintendi (2015), AJ Reid (2014), kris bryant (2013), mike zunino (2012), trevor bauer (2011), bryce harper (2010), stephen strasberg (2009), Buster Posey (2008), and david price (2007).

- June 3rd: Fan voting for Golden Spike Award semi-finalists has ended.
- June 5th: Golden Spikes Award finalists announced, fan voting begins
- June 21st: Fan voting for Golden Spike Award finalists has ended.
- June 22: Golden Spike Award Winners Announcement
The 2024 Golden Spikes Awards will once again feature fan voting. Baseball fans can vote for their favorite players at GoldenSpikesAward.com beginning with the semifinalists being named on May 20th. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for this award on June 5th, and fan voting will begin again at GoldenSpikesAward.com, closing on June 21st.
