Google’s Find My Device network is already showing up to some Android users

Last year, Google announced the Android Find My Device network, which allows users to find lost or stolen devices. However, concerns about stalking using tracking devices like AirTags led Google and Apple to collaborate on a solution, which delayed the rollout of the Find My Device network.

The reason for the delay is that Google asked Apple to implement protection against trackers used on Android on iOS. Now, as Apple gears up to release these new anti-stalker features in the iOS 17.5 update, Google doesn’t have to wait any longer and is moving quickly to begin rolling out its “Find My Device” network. .

This rollout caught the attention of Android experts AssembleDebug. The latest beta version of Google Play Services v24.12.14 introduces a new feature called “Find Offline Devices”.[設定]displayed on the menu.

This new feature allows users to go to a separate page and choose the location of devices that do not use the network, use the network in high-traffic areas, or use the always-available network. Users also have the option to disable this feature completely. By default, this feature is enabled and set to “All Areas”.

However, this new feature has not yet been implemented. You’ll have to wait a little longer before it’s fully functional. Most likely after official release iOS17.5 for iPhone should be released soon.

When the new Find My Device network goes live, it will use a variety of third-party Bluetooth tracker tags to help users find misplaced items like headphones, bags, keys, and more.

A big advantage of the Find My Device network is that it allows you to track your device even when you are offline. Currently, your lost or stolen Android device must be online to use the Find My Device feature.

The Find My Device network uses Google Play services on all Android smartphones to find lost devices. This means there is no need for mandatory connectivity. Devices such as phones, smartwatches, trackers, and headphones are supported.

You can opt out of the network, but you can also use recently saved locations to track your lost device. Alternatively, other devices in your network will only access your device’s location if they also find your lost device.
