Flathead Rivers Alliance (FRA) leaders are recruiting 30 to 40 river ambassadors and citizen scientist volunteers for the 2024 season to explore three tributaries of the wild and scenic Flathead River. Help strengthen river safety, stewardship, and data collection across 349 miles of rivers. According to a news release.

FRA Executive Director Sheena Pate launched the River Ambassador Program in 2021 to provide recreationalists with maps and information on safety, rules, ethics and etiquette at popular river access points at the three-way intersection. Educated. Life jacket rentals are available at the station. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, permanent stations will be installed at the Glacier Rim River Access Site on the North Fork and the West Glacier River Access Site on the Middle Fork.

In partnership with Glacier National Park, Flathead National Forest, Montana Fish and Wildlife Park, and other agencies, River Ambassador training will be held April 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Gray River in West Glacier. It will be held at the Glacier Outdoor Center at the Shear Raft Company.

Citizen Science’s River Recreation Monitoring Program volunteers use the Survey 123 mobile data collection app to record different types of river users and collect information on river wildlife and invasive species. In collaboration with Flathead National Forest and Glacier National Park, data will be shared with partner agencies along with river patrol data.

Citizen science training will be held April 16th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Glacier Raft Company’s Glacier Outdoor Center.

“These rivers are a lifeline for countless species, a source of adventure and solace for those who float or seek shore, and a lasting testament to the natural world,” said FRA Board Chairman Bob Jordan. ”.

FRA was established in 2019 in response to the proliferation of river recreation and the release of a comprehensive multi-agency river management plan to protect the three forks of the Flathead River.

Stakeholders such as stream service providers, nonprofit leaders, stream users, and Flathead National Forest and Glacier National Park officials work with FRA to provide education and assistance to the public. This partnership aims to improve management and protect 349 miles of rivers designated by the Wilderness River Act, including the North, Middle, and South Forks of the Flathead River.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact FRA. [email protected] Or visit www.flatheaddrivers.org.
