Google’s Materials You has been around for a few years now, but it looks like the company is still working on improvements, including adding new ways to access the “Color Contrast” option in upcoming Android releases.
The Material You theme gives your Android apps and the whole system a unique look, but we also always feel like things could be taken a little further, and there are some really cool apps to further customize your system .
We’re currently heading towards the release of Android 15 and new features are coming.
According to reports Android headlinesGoogle is working on a new “Color Contrast” customization option in the latest Android beta release.
This option allows users to manually darken elements of a material rather than the default appearance, which tends to use similar shades across various UI elements. The “Default” setting is the brightest, while the “Medium” and “High” settings add more contrast to his UI elements. There’s also a toggle that specifically increases text contrast by adding black or white strokes to the text.
Google states in the menu that not all apps will respond to these settings.
“Color Contrast” works in both light and dark modes, with darker colors in light mode and lighter colors in dark mode.
Google had been working on a similar version of this kind of feature in previous builds of Android 14, but it’s now built into the system’s developer options. This new menu appears to be a way for users to access options that are technically already enabled.
This new menu was manually spotted within Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2.1, which was released yesterday, but is most likely set to make its official debut in Android 15. Once published, this new menu will appear under Color & Motion in Android’s accessibility settings instead of in the menu. The Wallpaper and Style menu contains the remaining controls for Material You.
