Period care brand August has entered into a multi-year partnership with USA Track and Field.
The agreement will see August supply all USATF international team kits and menstrual care products to medical professionals through 2025.
“Even at the elite level, most athletes still get their periods, and that is very much taken into consideration in training. USATF has not previously provided free menstrual products to team members, especially when traveling. There was no,β said Nadia Okamoto, co-founder and CEO of August.
Okamoto and the August team began offering their product at last year’s Outdoor World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
“We are very proud to have August as USATF’s official menstrual product supplier,” said Max Siegel, CEO of USATF, in a statement. βThe idea to provide essential menstrual hygiene products was originated by athletes on the Athlete Advisory Committee and is part of the work USATF is doing to reduce costs and make it easier for athletes to compete and succeed. He is just one of the initiatives.β

This marks August’s latest effort to make period care more accessible. Okamoto recently formed the Tampon Tax Refund Coalition with several other feminine care brands to reimburse customers for taxes on menstrual products. Through her partnership with USATF, Okamoto aims to create a larger conversation around sports and menstruation.
“More than 50 percent of girls stop playing sports before the age of 14, compared to 10 percent of boys,” she says. “this [partnership] August is able to connect with higher level athletes, listen to their stories, and amplify their stories as athletes who are menstruating. β
With this in mind, the August team will be working with USATF to create content that focuses on athletes’ stories.
“It’s an essential part of training,” Okamoto said. “We’re excited about its meaningful and substantive interview content, but at the same time we’re also doing a fun TikTok trend that highlights the resilience of being able to do all these things even on your period. Whatever you can do. I can do things like bleed, just like you can.”
