When it comes to text messages, you’re likely to receive two types of messages. Messages where you struggle to find the right emoji, or where one emoji isn’t enough to convey an immediate reaction. The latter is the easiest to fix. All you have to do is enter all the emoji reactions one after the other. But what if you could stack them on top of each other?

This is a great iMessage emoji feature that everyone should know about. And I say that as a longtime iPhone user whose job is to know all the secrets each iOS release has to offer. Well, I never thought of combining multiple emojis to provide the perfect reaction. But it turns out you can do it on your iPhone without any third-party apps.

This trick comes from a Redditor who posted a screenshot of a conversation using such a combination of emojis.

Yes, they are great and very easy to do. You don’t need a separate app to combine emojis, just the iMessage app on your iPhone.

Setting everything up is very easy. First, post one of her emojis that you would like to use as a reply to the text you received. Then select another emoji from your keyboard and drag it towards the first emoji.

Drop the second object on top of the first and move it until you achieve the desired result. It’s so easy that most people will probably be surprised. Again, I’m a longtime iPhone user, but I’d never thought of using emojis like stickers. I’ll lay them out if you think that’s a natural reaction, but that’s it.

To be honest, I haven’t played around with iMessage stickers much, but this might have been one way to discover this hidden emoji trick. It turns out you can stack emojis because they behave like stickers.

Note that some third-party messaging apps may also support this feature, but not all. For example, WhatsApp does not support the emoji combination trick.

Not only can you use multiple emojis in Apple’s Messages app, but you can also use them in stickers and emojis, as seen in some of the demo videos posted by Redditors in the thread. One such example is shown below, with three emojis layered on top of a sticker.

Everything is very simple. You can create stickers from anything in iMessage, allowing you to further customize your reactions. Adding emojis on top takes your replies to a whole new level.

You can also sort the stacked emojis after stacking them. Additionally, emoji combos will also appear in iMessage on other devices, including Mac computers.
