There’s nothing to tease about Apple discontinuing the iPhone Mini and Phone (2a) Micro – Yanko Design

Nothing's 2024 April Fool's joke is a micro version of the Nothing 2a smartphone.

The iPhone 13 Mini is Apple’s last small smartphone, so some people still buy it in bulk. In the pursuit of “bigger and better,” smartphone companies have abandoned the very concept of ergonomics, and today’s phones are so big and heavy that people literally dent their little fingers. . The iPhone 13 Mini and possibly the Asus Zenfone 9 were probably the last “small” phones before the concept was discontinued. So nothing could be decided to do about it. Or at least make fun of it.

Introducing the Phone (2a) Micro – an alternative to today’s Plus and Max phones. Announced as an April Fool’s prank, the Phone (2a) Micro is functionally very small, probably no bigger than his Zippo lighter. However, considering its size, it still holds up well. The prototype (although I’m 99% sure it’s CGI) has a fairly usable (but still small) screen that’s still manageable. The video above is a small (no joke) demonstration of the phone in action…and it’s also a great example of the big smartphones that are abandoning a relatively large (also no joke) audience of people with small hands. Targeting companies.

Designer: None in particular

At approximately 3 inches tall, the Phone (2a) Micro features the same design as its predecessor, albeit on a smaller scale. We’ve ditched the dual cameras on the back for a single camera (there’s really no space for two lenses), but we’ve also included a glyph interface (which seems to work in the video demo) to improve the phone’s functionality. Every aspect of the design has been maintained. Flipping the phone over reveals a virtually bezel-less screen (even the minuscule bezels obviously add a lot of weight to a phone of that size). However, the lack of bezels is made up for by the huge front camera. It takes up a large portion of the display. I think taking good selfies is an important part of owning a mobile phone, right?

Let’s be honest: April Fool’s jokes have mostly died down since the pandemic, when companies decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Sure, companies like Volkswagen sometimes make jokes about rebranding to Volkswagen, causing turmoil in the economy and the stock market, but overall, big companies have lost their sense of humor. (Before Sundar Pichai, Google used to make elaborate jokes every year before Sundar Pichai took over the reins). But it’s good to see a startup trying to keep things positive and using humor to engage with their fans and community. Whether it’s Nothing’s little phone or Razer’s chair with a robotic arm, a good corporate joke can make big brands feel more human, allowing people to resonate and connect with them on a deeper level. Just… But when it comes to the Phone (2a) Micro, does it have a 3.5mm audio jack?
