Student researchers illustrate their poster presentations at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science's annual research day.

Master’s and PhD students from the School of Engineering and the School of Computer Science presented their research at the 2024 ECS Research Day.

Master’s and PhD students from the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) presented their research at the 2024 ECS Research Day held at the National Veterans Resource Center. A total of 113 posters and his 20 oral presentations highlighted the wide range of research activities across the university, from basic research to prototype development.

The keynote address, “The Critical Role of Strategic Decision Making in Career Advancement: A Personal Journey,” was delivered by Melua K. “Ram” Ramasubramanian G’87, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, State University of New York. . (SUNY) and his SUNY Research Foundation Board Chair. Mr. Ramasubramanian received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University, he shared his own experiences and insightful career advice with his attendees.

“ECS Research Day is the university’s signature annual event to celebrate postgraduate research. This year is particularly exciting with record participation and high-quality research presentations. Dacheng Ren, Associate Dean for Research at ECS, said:

1st place: Johnson Agyapong. “Formation of definitive wrinkle morphology by 4D printing of shape memory polymer substrates. ” Advisor: Dr. James Henderson.

2nd place: Ashok Thapa. “Passive oscillating heat pipe that achieves high heat dissipation” Advisor: Dr. Sharab Maloo.

health and welfare

1st place: Xu Yikang. “A new stain-resistant indwelling urinary catheter with embedded active topography. ” Advisor: Dr. Ren Da-sung.

2nd Place: Natalie Petryk. “Hydrolysis and oxidative degradation of polyurethane foam for trauma healing. ” Advisor: Dr. Mary Beth Monroe.

Sensors, robotics and smart systems

1st place: Yasser Alkaham. “Energy analysis for all possible boundary gaits of quadrupedal locomotion” Advisor: Dr. Zhenyu Gan.

Second place: Zachary Gephardt. “Multi-pass projection stereolithography for high-speed 3D printing of multiscale devices” Advisor: Dr. Pranav Soman.

Poster presentation award

1st place: Omkar Desai. “Cache System for Simultaneous DNN Model Training” Advisor: Dr. Brian Kim.

2nd place (tie): Ji-hwan Mr. Wang. “If you pay attention, you will get caught: Temporal sensor attack diagnosis using the attention mechanism of cyber-physical systems” Advisor: Dr. Qinru Qiu.

3rd place (tie): Matthew Quarters. “Experimental flow control techniques in supersonic multi-stream rectangular jet flows” Advisor: Dr. Fernando Zhigunov.

3rd place (tie): Parda Nayani. “Freeing up Bandwidth: Passive High Dispersion Matching Networks” Advisor: Dr. Younes Rady.

Honorable mention: Ziyangjiao. “Design and Implementation of Variable Capacity Storage Systems” Advisor: Dr. Brian Kim.
