iPhone 15 Pro was released on September 22, 2023. When Apple announced it, I was excited about the changes like the action buttons and titanium frame.
As we near the end of the first quarter of 2024, the iPhone 15 series is now six months old. We’ve already launched a number of flagship Android smartphones, with the OnePlus 12 and Samsung Galaxy S24 particularly standing out.
However, my primary phone is still the iPhone 15 Pro. why? There are several reasons why it is still my primary phone in 2024.
iPhone 15 Pro is better suited for my workflow
I’ve been using Apple products for over 10 years. I received my first iPhone as a gift in 2008, and it was also my first Apple product. Since then, I’ve bought his now-defunct iPod, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and every generation of iPhone. Truth be told, I couldn’t turn my computer back into a Windows machine.
Yes, I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. For years, my work revolved exclusively around Apple and the iPhone before coming to Digital Trends. The iPhone works best for what I need.
For example, when I review a new phone or product at work, I need to take a lot of original photos. I personally don’t own a standalone camera, so I use an iPhone 15 Pro instead. Yes, I know this may be blasphemous to some, but smartphone cameras have evolved so much that they are nearly as good.it’s not that’s right It’s the same as a digital SLR, but it’s pretty close.
Make some quick edits and corrections on your iPhone, then AirDrop it to your Mac, rename it, adjust its size, and upload it to WordPress. AirDrop has been around for 10 years and is one of my favorite features for easily transferring files between all Apple devices.
When I use my Android phone to take photos, I use Google Photos, which takes a little longer. You’ll have to wait until it’s backed up to the cloud and then go to your computer and download it manually. It’s easy, but not as easy as AirDropping.
I also use iCloud for Notes, iCloud Drive, and a bunch of apps as backup/sync methods. All your data is synced without you lifting a finger, and you can pick up where you left off, whether you’re using an iPhone 15 Pro or an iMac.
Action buttons are now even more convenient
I’ve come across quite a few people who don’t actually use the action button on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, I felt this was one of the best additions Apple has made to its iPhone hardware in a long time.
[アクション]The button replaced the old Do Not Disturb/Call toggle, but that feature still has a default action set. However, you can turn on focus mode, start the camera, turn on the flashlight, record a voice memo, translate, zoom in, set a custom shortcut, or enable accessibility features.
When the iPhone 15 Pro was announced with an action button, I was incredibly excited. After trying out Android smartphones that allow you to launch camera apps with the push of a button, I was happy to finally see this feature coming to the iPhone. When I got my iPhone 15 Pro, I immediately changed the action button to launch the camera app.
At some point, I wanted to create and experiment with custom shortcuts, but after six months I still haven’t been able to do so. Personally, I feel that the simplicity of just setting it to one action is its strength so far, at least for my use case.
But don’t get me wrong. I would like to see the ability to perform multiple gestures (double press, triple press, etc.) added in the future. But for now, I’m getting used to single action.
Despite all that, the action button is one of the buttons I use most on a daily basis. That’s why I was shocked when I found out that others barely used it. I only have it set up to launch the camera app, but I also use it to capture moments with my daughter or friendly neighborhood cats, selfies when I feel cute, or just random things I see throughout the day. I often use it throughout the day to take pictures. .
I think the location of the action button is an issue, and some people may not be able to use it as much as they would like. Admittedly, it would have been better to place it below the volume button. But that’s not a big deal for me since I often hold my iPhone 15 Pro in my right hand and press the action button with my left finger every time.
To me, the action button is a very useful addition to the iPhone hardware, and I can’t believe Apple didn’t come up with it sooner. I’m the type to leave my phone on silent 24 hours a day, so the silent/ringtone toggle just turns on and doesn’t change after that. It had no purpose for me. The action buttons are a huge upgrade in comparison, and even after several months, they still look great.
Cases and accessories are also available!
When I received my first iPhone as a birthday present in 2008, I was overjoyed. I didn’t put a case on my iPhone because I was too confident that it wouldn’t damage my electronics. Oops.
One day I messed with it as I was returning from a lunch break at my poor retail job and it fell onto the cement. I’m sure you can guess what happened next. Yes, the screen cracked and I was shocked to say the least. Not even half a year had passed yet.
Then, when I got the new iPhone 3G, I started using a case every time I got a new iPhone. Thankfully, the iPhone is pretty much the most popular mainstream phone, so there’s no shortage of case options to choose from. Of course, the case felt more basic at the time, but it got the job done. Now you can find a case that matches your outfit and overall mood.
There are several requirements that must be met before a case is decided. It should be protective, not too bulky, feel good in the hand, and have tactile buttons. A cover for the action button is preferred. For me, I want something that looks cute. Lately, I’ve been looking for designs that match my interests, such as pink, hearts, cherry blossoms, and Disney.
With my iPhone 15 Pro, there is no shortage of cases to choose from. If you’re looking for something special, you’re more likely to easily find what you want from a well-known brand rather than a big name brand you’ve never heard of.
However, this is not the case for many Android smartphones, and in some cases even older iPhone models. Case options are even more limited with the Samsung Galaxy S24 or Google Pixel 8 lineups. It’s not impossible to find a case, but you don’t have a wide range of options, so to speak.
I change cases often, either because I get bored with them or because I want something more festive for the season. I know it’s pretty superficial, but if you’re going to put your phone in a protective case, you don’t want it to be unsightly.
And it’s not just the case. There are also many accessories that are compatible with all iPhones. For example, Mophie has his 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe designed with Apple devices in mind. Although it technically works on Android smartphones, you won’t get all the benefits like the MagSafe part.
It’s great to have such a wide selection of cases and accessories for your iPhone, even if it can feel a little overwhelming. It’s been great for the iPhone 15 Pro since launch, and it’s gotten even better in the months since.
Autoportrait is still great
The iPhone 15 series adds Auto Portrait, one of my favorite new photography features in the last few years. I love taking photos in portrait mode, but trying to do that with a very active toddler who doesn’t like to sit still for long periods of time can be very difficult. Thanks to the iPhone 15 series’ Auto Portrait feature, you don’t have to worry.
Auto Portrait starts automatically when you take a picture of a person or pet. As long as your device detects your face, its depth data will be automatically captured, even when you’re in standard photo mode. If you feel your photo would look better as a portrait when viewed, enable it if you wish.
Auto Portrait works with photos taken with the rear or front selfie camera. I loved being able to take photos of my daughter in action and later enable the auto-portrait feature to make it look better. It’s also perfect when you want to blur a messy background in a selfie.
Apple’s Auto Portrait feature has been one of my most used features since it was announced. When you take photos with your Android smartphone, you forget that your Android smartphone doesn’t have that feature and you are constantly reminded of how dependent you are on your Android smartphone. That’s really good.
iPhone 15 Pro is still a great choice
While I’m still disappointed that Apple made the iPhone 15 Pro Max a “better” phone thanks to a better telephoto lens, I still really like the smaller iPhone 15 Pro. Masu. It’s been half a year, but it’s still in great condition.
I prefer the smaller iPhone 15 Pro to the larger iPhone 15 Pro. Despite such a big difference, you still get great performance from his A17 Pro with iOS 17. The lightweight titanium design feels great, the action buttons are great, and USB-C charging is very convenient. Battery life could be better, but I’m never far from a power outlet or battery pack. Plus, there’s a wide selection of cases and other accessories to choose from.
Six months later, the iPhone 15 Pro is still my most used smartphone, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
