WASHINGTON – Georgia Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock said the House speaker criticized President Joe Biden’s declaration of March 31, the same day as Easter this year, as Transgender Day of Visibility. In response, he criticized Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.).

“Declaring Easter Sunday ‘Transgender Day’ while banning sacred truths and traditions is outrageous and abhorrent,” Johnson said in the post.
In response, Baptist pastor Warnock said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Prime Minister Johnson “finds transgender people an abomination.”
“March 31st is a day of uplift for transgender people who endure violence and prejudice,” Warnock said. “Easter – the date changes every day. But this is just another example of people who don’t know how to lead us, trying to divide us.”

Other Republicans on X (formerly Twitter) also criticized Biden’s declaration. For example, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia I tweeted “Biden and the Democratic Party are not going to continue to mock your faith and condemn God.”
But Warnock said in an interview that criticism of Transgender Visibility Day is “contrary to Christian faith.”
“Jesus centered the marginalized. He centered the poor. And it is in times like these that we must use our faith not as a weapon to defeat others. , we need voices, especially voices of faith, to use that as a bridge to bring us all together,” Warnock said. “That’s what Martin Luther King Jr. did, and I’m honored to preach from that pulpit every day.”
