Pope Francis urges an end to wars in Gaza and Ukraine
Despite health concerns, Pope Francis led Easter celebrations and delivered a message of peace to a large crowd at the Vatican.
Celebrations are held all over the world to commemorate Easter, the most important holiday in the Christian calendar.
Tens of thousands of worshipers gathered in St. Peter’s Square to hear Pope Francis’ Easter Sunday Mass.
According to the Bible, Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. It is traditional for many people to attend services not only on Sunday but also on Saturday night.
On Saturday, a day after abruptly canceling the ceremony, Pope Francis attended a two-hour vigil at the Vatican.
His failure to take part in the Good Friday procession raised new concerns about his health.
But the 87-year-old pope read long sermons and baptized numerous baptisms.
People celebrated Easter all over the world, including in the Philippines, as worshipers flocked to catch a glimpse of traditional processions.

In the capital Manila, children dressed up as angels offered prayers.
Worshipers young and old came together to light candles in the Kiberia neighborhood of Nairobi, Kenya.

Easter Sunday is a major part of the Catholic calendar, with 1.4 billion people around the world celebrating Easter.
