Samsung has been the leader among Android OEMs in terms of software updates for the past few years. Then Google came up with an idea. The company announced an unprecedented seven-year Android OS update policy, and Samsung matched this with the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year. This means that the device will continue to be updated until 2031.
When asked about the decision to increase software support, Samsung responded:

GSMArena officials asked Samsung why it decided to provide seven Android OS updates for its new phones. Samsung Vice President Nicholas Porter said his company’s analysis found that extending software support would further increase the value of smartphones. The company also found that people tend to use their phones for longer periods of time these days.
The company also found that even if some people don’t mind the additional support, they will benefit from improved security and longer liquidity on their phones over the years. You’ll probably get a better user experience even after a few years.
Samsung has promised to provide Android OS updates and security updates for the Galaxy S24 series for seven years, and the upcoming Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series phones may do the same. The company has started offering 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates for its affordable and mid-range phones.
