This is a common sight. You’re about to board a five-hour flight, and you’re downloading music from Spotify or a movie from Netflix, when suddenly your iPhone flashes a message that says “iPhone storage is full.” You pause to consider whether to delete your child’s music recital to see the “3 Body Problem.”
Before you delete anything, you can and should take advantage of certain iOS features to free up storage on your iPhone.
It comes with two built-in iOS settings to help you clean up large amounts of storage on your iPhone, one permanent and one temporary. This allows you to install the latest software updates, take more photos and videos, download more apps, and more. Here’s what you need to know:

Optimize iPhone photos and videos to free up storage
If you want to keep your precious memories (even just screenshots of memes) but free up storage, the easiest way is to optimize the photos and videos you already have on your device.
By default, every time you take a photo or video, it is saved on your device at full resolution. Capturing photos and videos at the highest possible resolution can take up a significant amount of space. One minute of video shot at 4K, 60fps consumes approximately 400MB, or half a GB. That’s pretty important.
To optimize your photos and videos, visit: setting > photograph and turn on the switch Optimize iPhone storage (For this to work, iCloud photos (further settings will take effect). Depending on how many photos and videos you have stored on your iPhone, this may take a considerable amount of time, but once it’s complete, you should have a lot of free storage space on your device.

The iCloud Photos setting must be turned on for this to work.
All full-resolution photos and videos are transferred to iCloud, but smaller, lower-resolution versions are kept on your device to take up less space. If you want access to high-resolution photos and videos, you can visit the Photos app and download optimized files. This requires a suitable internet connection. There is no need to download all your photos and videos, as they may be present in full resolution if you have recently taken them.
If you don’t have enough iCloud storage, it’s easier to upgrade your cloud than buy a new phone. In the US, you can upgrade to 50 GB for just $1 per month. Alternatively, you can upgrade to 200 GB for $3/month or 2 TB for $10/month. Prices vary by country or region.
To upgrade iCloud on your iPhone, visit: setting > (your name) > iCloud > Manage account storage > Purchase more storage. Choose your plan and follow the instructions. Upgrading to a paid iCloud subscription gives you access to iCloud+ and also provides iCloud Private Relay and the ability to hide your email.

Add iCloud storage for just $1 a month.
Offload your biggest apps to save space on your iPhone
You won’t use all the applications stored on your iPhone. Your favorite airline app, third-party camera, music production, and much more are just there. You probably don’t need to access most apps every day, even if you use them occasionally. Therefore, you should consider offloading your apps in case you really need storage.
Let’s say you want to download and install the latest iOS update. For major updates such as iOS 16, you may need a little more than 5 GB of space to install the software. A point update like iOS 16.1 requires approximately 1 GB. You can also immediately offload apps if you don’t have enough storage space to update them. This is the middle ground between keeping or deleting the app.
go to setting > general > iPhone storage See which apps are taking up the most storage. Please note that certain built-in apps such as Photos and Messages cannot be offloaded. If you find a large app that you want to offload, tap it and select App offload. After a short wait, the app will be removed offline, but your documents and data will remain saved on your device.

To “delete” an app, you need to tap “Offload apps” twice.
If you need temporary storage for things like software downloads, check the list and offload all possible apps. The amount offloaded for each app will vary, but you’ll see a number next to it. app size.[ドキュメントとデータ]Please discard the number next to , as it will remain on your device. The only way to get rid of this is to actually delete the app.
Offload as many apps as you need until you have enough storage. Offloaded apps are no longer available, but if you want them back, go to your App Library and tap the iCloud button to redownload them. If an offloaded app is on your home screen, just tap it to download it. There is no need to sign in again. You will now be able to access the app as if it had never been deleted.
