ST. LOUIS — The World’s Fair is the pride of St. Louis, and soon a brand new exhibit about it will open its doors at the Missouri Museum of History.
“St. Louis loves the World’s Fair,” said Sam Moore, executive director of public history at the Missouri Museum of History. “It’s this moment in St. Louis history that people know about. Banners are up at the museum, but the door to new exhibits is closed for now. The exhibit will have its grand opening on April 27th.
“This is the first new World’s Fair we’ve opened in 20 years,” Moore told Five on Your Side. “The highlight of this new exhibition is the 1904 World’s Fair. It’s a huge scale model. It’s 17 feet in diameter. It’s 25 feet long and has over 300 3D printed buildings to match the fair’s original buildings.”
The models there also include projections of moving grass, people on the streets, and boats floating in the water, bringing the 120-year-old fair to life.
The inside is not all new, the old standby is still there. “There will certainly be some nostalgic stories and nostalgic artifacts,” Moore said, adding that dirt-still-covered shovels and memorabilia ruby glass from the 1904 World’s Fair will also be on display. “We’re going to be working on all kinds of new histories in the space.” good. “
The museum has also expanded its exhibition space for the World’s Fair. The museum plans to replace the artifacts with new exhibits in the space that used to be a storage room.
