Samsung can’t blame Apple’s iPhone monopoly for a lifetime of terrible software.

of US government announces Apple is curbing smartphone sales. The Justice Department said Apple has unfairly hurt competitors like Samsung and Google by using tactics that make competitors look worse instead of making its own phones better. Whether the government is right or not, one thing is clear: Samsung has been making terrible software for years, and you can’t blame Apple.

Among the major smartphone manufacturers, Samsung was the first to realize the threat posed by Apple’s iPhone. Among the largest cell phone manufacturers at the time (2007), BlackBerry executives dismissed Apple as a consumer strategy, while Nokia stuck with outdated and unfriendly software. Only Samsung quickly changed its policy to accommodate the iPhone.

Unfortunately, Samsung thought the iPhone was all about features. We never realized that the real advancement of the iPhone was that these features were made incredibly easy to use with intuitive software.

Samsung’s first competitor to the iPhone was the silly little Samsung Instinct, which featured Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and had a better-than-average web browser, music player, and even simple apps. It was especially bad when compared to the iPhone. But if you squinted hard enough, it looked like an iPhone. It was a poor replacement, but checked most of the same items.

A victory was won on Android, but it was a false victory

Samsung’s first Android phone was just as bad. Before the Galaxy, we look at samsung, this was the worst smartphone I’ve ever used. TouchWiz feature phone interface layered on top of Android. On a spreadsheet of features, the Behold may rival the iPhone in all its glory, but actually using the phone was a terrible ordeal.

When Samsung’s Galaxy phone came out, it represented the first victory for Samsung, but this victory only pointed the company more firmly in the wrong direction. What made the original Galaxy phone great, especially compared to his iPhone, was the OLED display. Apple did not adopt his OLED for the iPhone’s display panel. iPhone X. Samsung’s OLED Galaxy phone gave the company a win on paper, but it’s the only win that matters for Samsung.

Why is OLED better? First of all, OLED looks great, especially on smaller displays where you can see the contrast differences up close. With an OLED display, the colors stand out and the black areas are completely dark, so the contrast level approaches infinity. Second, OLED provides minimal battery savings, as no power is consumed in the dark areas of the screen. In reality, this is a small but measurable benefit of about 5% per day.

Samsung wins on the specs front. It wins with features that the iPhone doesn’t have. It still used terrible software and remained a version of the same awful TouchWiz interface used on Samsung Instinct feature phones. Even though Samsung had the hardware to compete with the best, it was held back by software born in a time when phones were plastic toys.

15 years of improved specs and malicious software

For the next 15 years, Samsung will follow the same pattern. It will aim to beat Apple in terms of specs and hardware capabilities. On paper, it would be a win. It will launch more and more mobile phones.

The first thing I got was mobile phone with large display. We built in a stylus even though we all knew it was obsolete. Get more cameras, get zoom cameras, space camera. Now you have a curved glass. foldable glass. Layer function upon function. There are no software improvements.

During that time, Samsung has never been good at its software, and it’s never been better than Apple’s. We heard about all the top specs and all the watch-beating feats, but even as reviewers complained and complained about poor quality, confusing, and over-engineered software, Samsung never budged. . There was no significant improvement.

Samsung could give up shiny plastic phones, removable batteries, home buttons and everything else just to win over the iPhone. For some reason, the company didn’t pay enough attention to improving the software. Otherwise, in software he would never have thought it possible to beat Apple.

Maybe Apple is winning because… it’s better?!

There are many reasons why Samsung lags far behind in the US while Apple has the huge market share it claims. I think Apple just makes better products. iPhone, and I mean all iPhones, from small to tiny. best iphoneis better than samsung galaxy s24. Unless you buy the absolute best. galaxy s24 ultrayou are buying an inferior cell phone.

The reason lies in the software. Apple iOS 17 The software isn’t just better, the whole experience is better. Features, hardware, and software all work together seamlessly.Sometimes it’s works very well can That’s horrible.

Let’s be honest: iOS 17 looks cooler than anything from Samsung (Image credit: Future / Philip Berne)

Samsung’s Galaxy phones are barely better, despite the software. The company’s best Ultra phones are packed with useful features, so you’ll have to put up with terrible interfaces, clogged menus, and overwhelming home screens. However, if you don’t find these features useful, or if you can’t find them at all, then unlike the iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is not a fun phone.

Whatever the Justice Department decides against Apple, I hope Samsung turns a blind eye. Samsung’s problems have nothing to do with Apple’s market power. Samsung has had the same problem for years, and if it expects sympathy for being so far behind, it needs to fix its terrible software first.
