Ukrainian parliamentarian says he wants to win the war from battle by releasing frozen Russian assets
Ukrainian parliamentarian Kira Rudik spoke to Sky News during her lunch break today about the war in Russia.
She called on the British government to release billions of pounds of Russian assets frozen by Britain following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“We must stay united, because this is our only chance to survive. As one, we must fight as one and make sure we are not alone in this fight.” I do it,” she said.
“So we’re very grateful to all our allies. But… we need to switch from helping fight to winning the war.”
Asked how Britain could further help, the prime minister said the government could release frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s war effort.
Since the Russian state, or Russian oligarchy, launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, billions of pounds of assets have been seized in the UK and around the world.
However, there is an impasse over how to use this money, with some proposals to save it to help rebuild Ukraine and its economy after the war ends.
“This process has been going on for two years and no decisions have been made,” she said.
“And instead of using people’s money, taxpayers’ money, to support our struggle, we will actually make Putin pay for his bankruptcy and use that money. I am calling on you to do so.
“There is currently around £50bn of state assets and oligarchs’ money frozen in the UK.
“So while we are very grateful to our allies and the British public for supporting our continued cooperation with Ukraine, we need to take certain decisions.
“And one of them is to make sure that Russian money is used for the right purposes, because we can use money to buy ammunition and our country Because we can use them to rebuild.”
