WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — It was a normal morning for Dr. Anita Lang, but when the classroom door opened…surprise!
“So it’s always a little scary when you have a bunch of people in a room,” Lang said.
The “surprise” was that her classroom received an award and a $1,000 donation through the WFISD Foundation. Dr. Lang has been teaching for over 30 years, most of which have been at Old High.
She received her degree in Physiology and Equine Reproduction from Texas A&M University and currently teaches Biology and Animal Physiology.
As her classroom door attests, Dr. Lang is a beloved member of the Coyote community, but she didn’t see this award coming yet. She said she thought “a group of administrators were handing out scholarships.”
“Honestly, it’s pretty special to have the principal here, to have Mr. Keeney and Mr. Moore here, and to have Mr. Dipley here,” Lang said. “So those people are very important to me. It’s shocking, but it makes me feel better.”
Lang is the first teacher to receive the Roberta Faulkner Sand Award. Dr. Eldon Harold Sand made a gift to Wichita Falls ISD in honor of his wife Roberta, who taught at Old High from 1968 to his 1992.
Ms. Lang received this award not only for her students’ high test scores, but also for being a great supporter of her students and a great leader for her fellow teachers.
“It’s very special that the people who work with me think I deserve recognition, but to be honest, when I look at the kids, I smile. When I saw them become , it meant a lot to me because they had put up with me for a year,” Lang said.
And each year, along with Dr. Lang, we prepare the next batch of future scientists to come out of WFISD.
