In today’s edition of Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman writes that users should expect an update to their iPhone’s home screen as part of iOS 18. While it doesn’t go into specifics, it does say that iOS 18 will make the home screen “more customizable.”
Apple apparently believes iOS 18 will be the biggest update in the company’s history. AI will be a key focus, with artificial intelligence-powered features integrated throughout the operating system. Apple may also integrate chatbot functionality through Google’s Gemini.
Apple wants to “catch up” with other tech giants and present a coherent AI strategy. Garman said iOS 18 will include a number of AI features that will “help you manage your daily life.”
Previous reports have indicated that Apple is working on improvements to Siri, AI-generated playlists for Apple Music, AI document generation in the iWork suite, smarter reply suggestions in Messages, and more.
iOS 18 is expected to be announced at WWDC in June, along with new versions of the other Apple operating systems: iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and macOS. Apple will release its first developer beta in June ahead of a general release in the fall, likely in parallel with the launch of its new iPhone 16 lineup in September.
We expect Apple to announce dates for WWDC 2024 within the next two weeks, as it is typically March or April when Apple announces events and sends out invitations.
