President Joe Biden’s big fundraiser at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall next week is set to feature celebrities including pop vocalist Lizzo and actor Ben Platt.
The event, hosted by Mindy Kaling, will be moderated by Stephen Colbert, host of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” and will feature appearances by Biden, former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, and It consists of a dialogue between
Mr. Obama received a call a month and a half ago asking him to participate, according to a person familiar with the plan. Officials said Mr. Obama was available and willing to do so as soon as he was asked.
Lizzo’s appearance is likely to raise some eyebrows. That’s because she faces a lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers accusing her of creating a hostile work environment and sexually harassing her employees. She denies all the allegations against her in her lawsuit, which she said are “false,” “unbelievable” and “outrageous.” A judge last month denied Rizzo’s request to dismiss her case.
Pratt previously appeared at a fundraiser for Biden at a New York theater in September.
Other celebrities invited as special guests for the March 28 event include actors Lea Michele and Queen Latifah. Biden welcomed her to the White House in December, where she was named a Kennedy Center Honoree for her lifelong artistic accomplishments.
Actor and singer Cynthia Erivo, known for her Oscar-nominated role as abolitionist Harriet Tubman and in the Broadway revival of “The Color Purple,” will also be a featured guest.
Biden’s re-election campaign announced this week that the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and Democratic state parties raised a combined $53 million in February. The campaign says it was the strongest grassroots fundraising month since its inception last April.
