Donald Trump says some illegal immigrants are ‘not human’

VANDALIA, Ohio — Former President Donald Trump on Saturday doubled down on his dehumanizing rhetoric against immigrants, saying people accused of crimes are “not human beings.”

“I don’t know if I would call them humans,” he told a rally near Dayton, Ohio. “In my opinion, in some cases they’re not human. But the radical left says that’s a terrible thing, so I’m not allowed to say that.”

Trump, who is seen as a likely Republican candidate, was in Ohio to compete against Bernie Moreno, who is in a tight three-way race for the Republican nomination with Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown. Moreno, a businessman, will face Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and state Sen. Matt Dolan in Tuesday’s primary.

In his remarks on immigration Saturday, Moreno said foreigners coming to the United States should learn English.

“We don’t need to vote in five different languages. We learn languages,” said Moreno, a Colombian immigrant who falsely claimed English was the national language. “It means you assimilate. You become part of America. America does not become part of you.”

Later in the rally, Trump warned that it would be a “disaster for the country” if he wasn’t elected. The comments came as President Trump promised to increase tariffs on foreign-made cars, and it was unclear what exactly he was referring to with his advice.

“Now I’m going to put a 100 percent tariff on every car that comes through the line, so if I’m elected, I won’t be able to sell those cars,” he said. “If I don’t get elected, the whole thing will be a disaster. That would be the bare minimum. It would be a bloodbath for the country.”

The Biden campaign characterized the comment as a promise of political violence.

“This is who Donald Trump is: a loser who lost by more than 7 million votes and instead of appealing to a broader mainstream audience, he doubles down on threats of political violence,” spokesman James Singer said. said in a statement. “He wants another January 6th, but the American people continue to reject his extremism, love of violence, and thirst for revenge, giving him another defeat in this November’s election.” He will give.”

Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chan said Trump’s comments were not about violence, but were an extension of his comments about imported cars.

“When I actually looked at this section and listened, he was talking about the auto industry and tariffs,” he wrote in an email, adding, “Biden’s policies will cause economic disaster for the auto industry and auto workers.” It will bring about that,” he added.

Immigration is becoming a major issue in presidential campaigns. Presidents Trump and Biden made dueling visits to Texas border towns last month, blaming each other for the recent surge in illegal immigration.

President Trump has called the influx of immigrants a “Joe Biden invasion.” Biden blamed Trump for the failure of a $20 billion bipartisan bill to expand capacity and hire thousands of Border Patrol agents.

President Trump’s comments on Saturday represent an escalation of his years of harsh words on the issue. Since calling Mexican immigrants “rapists” during his 2016 campaign, President Trump has made inflammatory attacks on immigrants a theme in every campaign. In October, he accused immigrants of “contaminating the blood of our country”, a comment some have likened to Adolf Hitler’s concept of “blood contamination” in Mein Kampf. President Trump rejects the comparison and continues to use similar language.

He also promised to launch an unprecedented deportation effort if elected, drawing inspiration from a 1954 plan called “Operation Wetback” that used military-style tactics to remove Mexican immigrants from the country. It is cited as the source of

“One of my first acts after taking office will be to stop this invasion of our country,” President Trump said Saturday.
